Watermelon Limeade Slushy
A delicious sweet treat for anytime by Brittany Zago
In California, we don’t have seasons. We have hot, hotter and sweater weather (which is 70 degrees). Since we can't focus on the cold weather just yet, I thought we could focus on some cold heaven in a cup.
My aunt's lime tree has been getting busy so we have a ton of limes. I wanted to make something with those limes and the frozen watermelon we had stored in our freezer. I combined both those things and came up with a Watermelon Limeade Slushy, the best thing to beat heat exhaustion. My dad says it’s yummy so that must mean it is. Or, it could have been the fact that he was tired out from mowing the lawn. Who knows. Oh wait, I do.This drink is freakin’ delicious! And so so so easy to make! All you need is frozen watermelon (or you can add ice), limes, sugar and water! You can always make it an adult friendly drink and add some Skinny Girl Vodka. Step one:
First, take your watermelon chunks out of the freezer. Since they froze together into a solid chunk, you can run some water over it or go into Thor mode and beat it with a meat tenderizer until you have moderate sized chunks. Now, throw those bad boys in your blender and let it run for a few minutes. Step two: Squeeze those limes into the (slightly) blended watermelon. If you're weak like myself, this is the point where you are going to need to enlist help. I suckered my mom into lime squeezing duty. Step three:
Add in the ¾ cup sugar (I did 1 cup and it was a little too sweet) and 3/4 cup of water. Blend all the ingredients together until it is the consistency you like. Now would be the time to add the alcohol! Step four: Edge your cups in sugar and pour in your heavenly drink. Add a lime slice for decoration if you feel like getting fancy. Let’s be honest, you know you want to. Last but not least, enjoy, before it all melts because it's way too hot. |
