Strawberry Sweetness

An easy, healthy-ish snack by Giulana

Ever crave something healthy, but also dangerously delicious and most likely not as healthy as you may have originally wanted? Good. I'm not alone.

This easy, simple, and two ingredient recipe will most definitely satisfy both your sweet tooth and trick your waistline (kinda). Strawberries and sugar. Need I say more?

Here's what you'll need:
  • Strawberries (however many you think you'll want to eat..or share)
  • Sugar (maybe a cup or two....again depending on the amount of strawberries you can contain yourself to)
  • Knife
  • Bowl

Step 1: Prep your stuff
I would highly recommend that you wash your strawberries. I typically just pass them under cold running water. So...I am probably washing them incorrectly. I recommend that YOU spend a little more time washing your strawberries. Maybe a few seconds longer. Just get them clean!

Grab a bowl, the sugar, and your knife.

Step 2: Cut it off!
Next, you want to give the strawberries a little haircut. No one likes the green leafed hat that nature has given these berries. And I am pretty sure you are not supposed to eat it anyways. Cut off the green stuff. Then beginning slicing or chopping your strawberries.

Step 3: Pour some sugar on meee...
Finally, the fun part. Put your sliced or chopped berries in your designated bowl. Grab that sugar. Don't dip your finger in the sugar bowl. Or do. I am not your mom. My mom wasn't home, so I did. Plus, I am an adult. Depending on how many strawberries you cut will depend on how much sugar you pour. Note: THERE IS NO WRONG AMOUNT OF SUGAR for this recipe. I would simply suggest that you slightly cover the strawberries in sugar. See picture in the column. Gently mix the sugar and strawberries. Now here comes the hard part - wait! Give your mixture at least five minutes to rest and figure out what the heck it going on. This will create a delicious syrup that will make the wait soooooo worth it.

Step 4: Enjoy!
Once your mixture is nice and syrup-y, scoop it into a cup, on top of some shortbread, or eat it straight from the bowl. Add some whipped cream if you would so like.
